This month’s list features tacos, bloody marys, animated anthropomorphic animals, and ladies roller derby (I’m now imagining an event with all those things combined and it is glorious). It’s a busy month here in Nashville and it’s gonna be a blast.
R&B Bar Crawl – August 4th
The only thing better than a bar crawl is a bar crawl that features R&B DJ’s with each bar featuring a different era of R&B (80’s/90’s/00’s/Modern). Enjoy discounted cocktails and food and dress like your R&B idols for the chance to win prizes!
Live on the Green Music Festival – August 9th, 16th, 23rd, & 30th, September 1st
Featuring a pretty eclectic number of artists, the Live on the Green festival is one of Nashville’s best outdoor festivals. And it’s free! This festival always garners a huge crowd of music lovers from all over town.
Shakespeare in the Park – August-September
If you’re looking for a fun, classy, and cheap night out, why not check out Nashville’s Shakespeare in the Park. This year will feature the classic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Spend the evening out in the park enjoying one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays.
Tomato Art Fest – August 10th & 11th
An entire weekend dedicated to the humble tomato. One would think this would be a small, quirky social gathering of only a few dozen people. Not here in Nashville. Beloved by tourists and locals alike, check out crazy tomato-inspired art and costumes, free music, and what promises to be an amazing bloody mary making contest. Last year yielded 60,000 people and this year promises to be no different.
Nashville Roller Derby – August 11th
In their final roller derby doubleheader of the regular season, watch the Music City All Stars and Brawl Stars face off in some exciting roller derby.
Wizards & Wands Bar Crawl – August 18th
For those of us who are still mad about not receiving a Hogwarts letter, it’s time to let your inner drunken wizard out! Hop along a number of bars with fellow Potterheads in full costume and enjoy themed cocktails. It’s gonna get weird and that’s why it’s gonna be awesome.
Killer Nashville – August 23rd-26th
The premier forum for mystery, thriller, and suspense writers, Killer Nashville is hosted annually in Franklin, 30 minutes outside of Nashville, and is the ideal place for writers to network with agents and fellow writers from around the world. So if you’re an aspiring writer with a desire to meet agents or just want to attend some conferences, this is the place for you.
Parks & Recreation Trivia Night – August 24th
If, like me, you’ve seen the TV show Parks and Rec a dozen times, it’s time to put your knowledge to the test. Hosted at the Soda Parlor, get your team of TV trivia nuts together for some Waffle Mondaes (their tasty version of an ice cream sundae) and win some cool prizes.
Tacorama: Taco and Tequila Bash – August 25th
Who doesn’t love tacos? I’ll tell you who… people who are wrong! Get your tickets now for an afternoon of all-you-can-eat tacos from local restaurants and amateur chefs and get some great tequila cocktails for an afternoon well-spent. And, if you have the “guts,” enter the taco eating contest for prizes and eternal glory.
Zoovie Night – August 31st
If you’re looking for some family friendly activities in Nashville, maybe you should head to the Nashville zoo for their screening of Zootopia. There’ll be plenty of things for the kids to run around and do while you hang out. Inflatables, games, face painting, and crafts are just some of the things available to do.
Are there any events we missed? Let us know in the comments!
